Our current community project involves vegetable grow zones that are sponsored by Auto and General through Food Securities Program. We have installed nine grow zones and a nursery greenhouse tunnel in Diepsloot.
The grow zones are installed using some of our staff and local labour from the community who are trained through the Food Securities Program to farm and cultivate the vegetables and when they have proven themselves they are given their own grow zone to farm. Up to 300 bunches of spinach are harvested a week and are used to feed the school children where the grow zones are located. The excess food is sold to the community at a reduced rate.
